The Avenue of Honour (in the Northern Metro group) did not receive a Grant with 192 Votes and the Sunbury SES project received 383 and was successful.
The Sunbury Sub-Branch of the Returned and Services League and the Sunbury Residents Association proposed the creation of an Avenue of Honour linking Sunbury’s Memorial Hall to the Village Green. The Village Green was created as a public space through the closure of Stawell Street in the 1980s, it hosts numerous community activities including the Remembrance Day & ANZAC day services and SunFest. The Village Green is bounded by Memorial Hall (the Sunbury Sub-Branch of the RSL) and is an important civic and community place in Sunbury.
Sunbury has a rich military history and a legacy of community service. The Sunbury Village Green is an important civic and community location that would be enhanced by the erection of 12 memorial plaques that celebrate and remember the contributions from service men and women in Sunbury in a prominent and proud location.
